Deon Edmond is a passionate educator, mentor, and community leader dedicated to youth development and fostering dynamic, inclusive learning environments. With a strong foundation in early childhood and elementary education, Deon specializes in inquiry-driven, hands-on learning experiences that inspire curiosity, problem-solving, and collaboration.
Currently, Deon serves as the Grammar School Science & MakerTech Department Coordinator at Columbia Grammar & Preparatory School in New York City, where he designs and implements engaging STEM curricula for Pre-K through 5th grade. A dedicated mentor and instructional leader, he also supports educators in curriculum planning and inquiry-based teaching strategies. His commitment to student-centered learning extends beyond academics, as he cultivates classroom communities rooted in empathy, equity, and respect.
Beyond the classroom, Deon has dedicated fourteen summers to YMCA Camp Starfish, where he has served as a counselor, sports & games director, camp director, and now Director of Operations. His leadership in curriculum development, staff training, and family outreach has strengthened the camp’s mission of providing enriching, transformative experiences for young learners. Deon is also an accomplished athletics coach, leading Varsity Wrestling, Track & Field, Strength & Conditioning, and Powerlifting at Trinity School and Columbia Grammar & Preparatory School.
As a board member at the Center for Creative Education in Kingston, NY, Deon continues to advocate for accessible, innovative educational opportunities for all children. A Kingston native and graduate of Kingston High School, he remains deeply connected to his hometown, where he enjoys returning each summer to give back to the community that helped raise him.
Throughout his career, Deon has remained committed to empowering young people, strengthening youth programs, and fostering inclusive, inquiry-based learning environments where every child feels seen, valued, and inspired to explore the world around them.
