Our Community Center Offerings:
Dance
This fun, energetic class cultivates the joy of dance, and focuses on creative movement, rhythm training, enriching the imagination, and increasing confidence & expression. Attention is paid to the appropriateness of music, lyrics, movement and content while exploring the latest dance moves and those of the African diaspora.

Drumming
Drumming class introduces students to traditional rhythms from around the world with a special focus on the music of Africa and the African Diaspora. Basic instruction is given in the techniques of playing with both hands and sticks and in the use of a variety of percussion instruments. In addition to the techniques of playing, students learn traditional rhythms and original compositions, learn to listen and work together in an ensemble setting and discover the joy of making music with others.

Spoken Word
Spoken Word class helps students develop and express their unique poetic voice, writing and speaking from personal experience with authenticity and power. In addition to exploring literary techniques, the class involves self-exploration and community building through poetry. We cultivate a culture of vulnerability, acceptance, and connection as students build their repertoire of expression. Classes include weekly writing exercises, open mics, and a culminating performance.
