CCE partners with schools to offer dance, drumming, and spoken word programs. Research has shown that dance and other performing arts are strongly correlated to academic achievement, and we work with districts to teach teamwork, discipline, creativity and confidence through the arts.

We work to correlate our program to the curriculum and priorities of each teacher/district, and offer both short and long-term partnerships to maximize student learning.

School partnership Offerings:
Dance
This fun, energetic class cultivates the joy of dance, and focuses on creative movement, rhythm training, enriching the imagination, and increasing confidence & expression. Attention is paid to correlating music, movement and/or content to the school’s curriculum.

Drumming
Drumming class introduces students to traditional rhythms from around the world with a special focus on the music of Africa and the African Diaspora. Basic instruction is given in the techniques of playing with both hands and sticks and in the use of a variety of percussion instruments. In addition to the techniques of playing, students learn traditional rhythms and original compositions, learn to listen and work together in an ensemble setting and discover the joy of making music with others.

Spoken Word
Spoken Word class helps students develop and express their unique poetic voice, writing and speaking from personal experience with authenticity and power. In addition to exploring literary techniques, the class involves self-exploration and community building through poetry. We cultivate a culture of vulnerability, acceptance, and connection as students build their repertoire of expression. Classes include weekly writing exercises, open mics, and a culminating performance.
